The Prevention & Community Risk Reduction Division is dedicated to protecting lives and property through proactive fire prevention, public education, code enforcement, and community engagement. This division works to identify and reduce risks before emergencies occur by conducting fire inspections, reviewing development plans, investigating fires, and promoting fire and life safety education throughout the community.
By building strong partnerships with residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations, the division helps create a safer community while supporting the department’s commitment to prevention, preparedness, and public service

The Prevention Division is also responsible for providing fire and life safety education for the public. The Department has implemented a fire safety curriculum that was specifically designed to match the age, attention span, and learning style of its various audiences. Teachers can Submit a Request to have firefighters come to their classrooms or plan a field trip to the Fire Department.
The Statesboro Fire Department offers Free Smoke Alarm Installation for Statesboro residents. This service is offered as an effort to build relationships with the community and promote fire safety.

Justin Taylor
Prevention Chief Taylor began his fire service career in 2011 and joined the SFD in 2020. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management and brings a strong background in fire service, emergency response, and public safety education. His professional certifications include Nationally Registered Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (NR-AEMT), Fire Instructor II, ICC Commercial Building Inspector, CPR Instructor, and Fire and Life Safety Educator. Chief Taylor is committed to advancing fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and community safety through leadership, training, and education.Chief Taylor holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management and has earned numerous state and national certifications that support his role in the fire service. His certifications include Nationally Registered Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (NR-AEMT), Fire Instructor II, ICC Commercial Building Inspector, CPR Instructor, Certified Arson Investigator, and Fire and Life Safety Educator. His diverse training and experience provide valuable expertise in emergency operations, fire prevention, code enforcement, and public education initiatives. In addition to his operational responsibilities, Chief Taylor remains dedicated to improving firefighter readiness, enhancing community risk reduction efforts, and promoting a culture of professionalism and continuous learning within the department
